Ingrid Holborn Art - About Ingrid Holborn

An abstract artist

Why Abstract Expressionism

I love the fact that abstract art focuses on achieving an effect rather then presenting a strict likeness.

Abstract art has no clear rules I can simply let my imagination run wild. I like to incorporate shape, forms, colour and texture into powerful works of art.

My appreciation of abstract art is in its’ ability to help people gain new perspective through imagination, tossing away the limiting confines of reality.

How I Work

Usually I have no idea how I would like the end result of my paintings to be. I like to approach a blank canvas with an empty mind. I like the excitement and spontaneity of not knowing and just allowing myself to work unpredictably and intuitively.

How I decide

My best paintings happen when I let go and let my brushes do the work. I like to paint fast as it encourages my mind to be quiet and temporarily stop it’s judgemental tendencies; relinquishing my attachment to any imagined result.

Recent Work

More recently I am enjoying the combination of dance, painting and responding to the rhythm of the music. I find this creates interesting movement and energy in my work. I particularly like the thrill of exploring and experimenting with different mediums to see what would happen ‘if’.

Ingrid Holborn

Hull born and based artist, Ingrid Holborn, developed a passion for art at a young age and began her career as a full-time artist in 2013. Studying at Hull College of Art she gained ‘A’ levels in Art & Design and Textiles plus a Distinction in her advanced GNVQ in Art and Design in 1997. Graduating from Huddersfield University in 2001 with a 2:1 with Honours in Textiles Ingrid became an Art Teacher at Kingswood College School of Arts in 2002.

Ingrid’s passion grew for the freedom and personal expression of abstraction, She became deeply interested in the effects of colour, texture and the emotional response to strong composition and design. By creating a piece of work that told a story without an observational subject matter this was extremely exciting to her. Ingrid’s work is an eclectic mix of styles ranging from modern, simplistic to intricate and quirky.

Ingrid is an artist in residence at “Traenerhus” a local, well established Hull based art gallery. Ingrid exhibits here and at other local galleries. She also delivers art workshops including:

  • Mixed Media – my teaching includes the exploration and experimentation of various art mediums.
